Using the word lists

The lists are free to use for playing, teaching and printing. Use them in a classroom, at a party or in a pub quiz without asking. What we ask is that you do not scrape the site to republish the lists wholesale as your own, which is the one thing that would make building them pointless.

The difficulty scores

The scores describe what a word's spelling gives away to a standard opening. They are not a guarantee that a word will be hard or easy for any particular person, and they take no account of who is guessing or what they already know.

The solver

The solver returns words from a standard English dictionary that fit the pattern you supply. It cannot know which word your opponent chose, only which are possible, and proper nouns are excluded so it will never return a name or a place.

Words you create

You are responsible for the words you turn into links and send to other people. Because the word is encoded in the link and never reaches us, we cannot see it, moderate it or remove it.

No warranty

The site is provided as is. It is a word game, and nothing on it should be treated as advice about anything.

The clues, the guides and the scoring methodology are our own work. Quoting a passage with a link back is welcome; republishing pages wholesale is not.
