Daily hangman
2 October 2026 · day 48. One word, the same for everyone, changing at midnight UTC.
Daily · day 48
No guesses yet.
How the day's word is chosen
The date is hashed and the hash picks one word out of a pool of 512. That means the choice is fixed for every date, past and future, and two people on opposite sides of the world get the same word without anything being stored or sent anywhere.
The pool excludes phrases and anything under five letters, because a daily that ends in four guesses is not worth keeping a streak for. Everything in it carries a difficulty score, which is shown once the round is over.
Where the answer lives
The word is obfuscated in the page rather than sitting there in plain text, so opening the source does not hand you the answer. That is obfuscation and not secrecy: a game running in your browser has to know its own word, so somebody determined can always dig it out. What it stops is the easy version, which is the one that would actually happen.
The streak
Solve the day's word and the streak goes up by one. Miss a day and it resets. It lives in your browser rather than in an account, so it is yours and it is also only on this device. Practice rounds elsewhere on the site never touch it.
Every past day stays playable in the archive, and replaying one leaves the streak alone.
Questions
How does the daily hangman work?
One word is chosen for each date and it is the same word for everybody. It changes at midnight UTC. You get six wrong guesses and a category hint from the start, and finishing keeps your streak alive.
Where is my streak stored?
In your own browser. There is no account and no server, so the streak belongs to the device you play on and clearing your browsing data will clear it.
Can I play a day I missed?
Yes. Every past day is in the archive and stays playable forever. Replaying an old day will not change your streak, which only moves on the current day.
Does the share grid reveal the word?
No. It shows how many wrong guesses you used as a row of squares and nothing else, so you can post it without spoiling the day for anybody.
